G. Marius Clore

National Institutes of Health

Winner of the Barry Prize, 2026

The prize citation for Dr. Clore’s Barry Prize reads:

By pioneering new methods that use multi-dimensional nuclear magnetic resonance
spectroscopy, Marius Clore has dramatically advanced our knowledge of biological
macromolecules. His discovery of previously undetectable states and behaviors in proteins and
nucleic acids has transformed our understanding of how macromolecules are assembled to
form structures that underlie the functioning of living cells. The Academy honors Dr. Clore’s
distinguished contributions to humanity’s understanding of the molecular basis of biological
phenomena.

Marius Clore, FRS is a distinguished investigator at the National Institutes of Health. In addition to being a Fellow of the Royal Society, he is also a member of the National Academy of Sciences and a fellow of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences. He has been awarded the Biochemical Centenary Award, the Royal Society of Chemistry Centenary Prize, the Stein and Moore Award, and the Khorana Prize. He was the head of the Biological MNR Group at the Max Planck Institute for Biochemistry and a member of Scientific Staff at the MRC National Institute for Medical Research.
